I was a chubby kid. A little roley poley. A little too round for my ballerina tutu. As an adult, I look back and realize that being chubby was probably normal for my age. But unfortunately, my uncomfortableness with my size set me up for some unhealthy habits when it came to food and exercise. I was lucky to find a love of running in middle school which helped me trim down, but my relationship to food continued to be challenging. I was off and on diets all the way through to my mid twenties, restricting heavily at times and then overeating between diets. When I look back, the hardest part was the shame I felt that I could not get a handle on it. I kept trying one more diet – if I could just be more strict, then I would have the body I wanted.
And I would have continued on like this for much longer, maybe even my whole life, if I hadn’t found The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. My time at Integrative changed the way I thought about food, interacted with food and my choices about how I nourish myself. The shift was so complete that I have never gone back. In fact, it is hard for me to ever imagine living as I did before.
Initially, I went to the school to get a handle on my own relationship with food. But I left with a determination to help others find the freedom I have found. And for those on the yo-yo diet cycle, you will understand what I mean when I say Freedom.

3. You can’t talk about food in a vacuum.
I’ve worked now for 12 years, with people of all types, shapes and sizes, on weight loss and health goals. I love what I do because it is not about a specific diet, it is about finding out what is happening for that person and making a plan for them. My goal is always to determine a way of eating and a way of living that allows them to come fully alive – to be the person in this life that they want to be. Sound dramatic? It is
